Day trip to Trikeri

We start from Platanias towards Lavkos and at Lavkos turn left towards Milina (not towards Volos).

At Milina we head left towards Trikeri. The distance is around 42 km and the duration of the trip is 1 hour and a bit by car.

Arriving at Trikeri we have two possibilities: or to tour the village of Trikeri and then head towards Agia Kyriaki or to tour the village of Trikeri and head towards Alogoporos and from there take the boat and cross over to the islet of Old Trikeri.

It is a very beautiful day trip where we have the opportunity to see several villages of South Pelion, travelling by the sea. Trikeri is a village which in the old days had one of the largest merchant fleets and helped in the revolution of 1821 in a decisive way.

Today’s Trikeri is a very beautiful village with large traditional tower houses (which indicates the economic vitality of the inhabitants of this area). There are many attractions that can be visited such as the Maritime Museum and the Church of the Holy Trinity with the fantastic hagiographies, which also has the throne of Napoleon the Great!

Also, a visit to Agia Kyriaki, the port of Trikerion, is mandatory. A large and beautiful fishing village, with tavernas and cafes, a fish market and fishermen’s nets drying, all around the picturesque little harbour.

Finally, if you are interested in the lighthouses, pay a visit to the lighthouse of Trikeri which is 9 m high. and was built in 1864 by the French Lighthouse Company.

The harbour of Trikerion

In case you want to go to the island of Trikeron, you will get off at Alogoporos and park in the large parking lot there. From there, if the boat is in the harbour, you will take it to the island. If not, there are signs with his phone numbers that you call and it comes right up. On the island there are taverns with fresh fish and local fish meze.

The monastery of Panagia Evaggelistria is 600 metres away on foot, at the top of the hill. A tricuspid temple built in 1825-1837AD, on the ruins of a temple burnt down in 755AD by pirates. The reason for the building of the Holy Monastery was the miracle of finding the icon of the Virgin Mary on the root of an olive tree and other miracles that followed. The icon and part of the olive tree are still kept in the sanctuary of the monastery in public view.
